By Ross McCay
Birmingham’s most influential women chefs, restaurateurs, caterers and food writers were honored on March 22, 2017 at Highlands Bar and Grill during Women's History Month.
Restaurateurs Betsy McAtee of Dreamland Bar-B-Que and Pardis Stitt of Highlands Bar and Grill, Bottega Cafe, Bottega Restaurant, and Chez Fonfon spoke at the event.
Birmingham City Councilor Valerie Abbott shared a resolution honoring the women. And Mindy B. Hanan of the Alabama Restaurant and Hospitality Association congratulated the group.
Included among the the women honored were members of the Birmingham Chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier. This philanthropic organization is composed of women leaders in the fields of food, fine beverage, and hospitality. The by-invitation membership, composed of over 2,200 members in 38 chapters in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Mexico, is highly diversified and reflects the multifaceted fields of contemporary gastronomy and hospitality. Our publisher, Jan Walsh was among the Les Dames honored.
After the event a group of the women gathered next door for lunch at Chez Fonfon, making new friends and networking.
